Andrea believes everyone has a story to tell and relishes helping students shape their personal stories into powerful essays, no matter their prior experience with writing. She approaches her work as an essay coach with compassion, curiosity, and a lifelong love of the written word.

As a freelance journalist and former staff writer for Rolling Stone, Andrea specializes in covering pop culture, subcultures, and crime for a national audience. She holds a B.A. in English from Skidmore College, where she graduated magna cum laude, and she earned her M.S. in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Her byline has also appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Outside.

What drew Andrea to journalism is the same thing that excites her about being an essay coach: telling inherently human stories. She believes the essay-writing process can be fun and rewarding for everyone. She does most of her own writing from Sunset Park, Brooklyn, where she lives with her husband and two cats, Oyster and Morris.
